Thirty four migrant workers arrested in Yanaung, Thailand


On Septemper 23, 34 Burmese migrant workers were arrested for illegal entering to Yanaung which is on the Thai-Burma border in southern Thailand. They were arrested at the gate of Thai immigration and one escaped while they were passing through the river by boat. There are 27 men and 7 women including 3 children.
Currently, investigating to deal with problems by the organization of against Human Trafficking at the immigration office in Yanaung. Myanmar and Thailand have collaborated and set up committee against Human Trafficking in this month. Therefore, more hard work to tackle human trafficking in Thailand but not on the side of Burma.

“Even though political transformation has started in Burma, unemployment is still being extended. Consequently, many people migrate to another country to get jobs. At the same time, factory workers demonstrated to get minimum wages and some farmlands are being confiscated by authorities within this year in Burma. Therefore, illegal migration will be extended in Thailand’’, said Ko Moe Swe, chairman of Yaung Chi Oo Worker Association.
