About 2000
protestors from province of Latpathaung Mountain range in Sagaing division
demanded to get back their seized lands by local authority confiscated their
lands.
They are
demanding peacefully to get their land back singing national song with Burmese
musical instruments. It is like Sayar San’s revolts, farmer leader of
anti-British rebellion of 1930-32 in Myanmar. It didn’t happen any conflicts
between the protectors and about 150 securities police even though protectors
were being watched by the police. A local people said “we will be keep
demanding to get our lands back”.
“These are our
lands which are since our great grandfather worked on these farmlands and
owned. But now the authority grabbed our lands and has imposed curfew under the
section of 144.Therefore, we will be farming on our own lands every day. There
was no negotiation with farmers and they set up many signboards of no farming
on each farmland. However it is, we will be keep doing repeatedly” said a
villager.
Around 7800
acres of farmlands from 26 villages near latpataung mountain range were
confiscated for copper mine project which will be led together by Union of
Myanmar Economic Holding Co,Ltd and Wan Bao company from China.
