Burmese migrant workers who are working in Thailand are allowed to apply Thai ID card for permanent resident in Thailand, started from this month January with the legal process of opportunities gaining Thai citizenship for Burmese migrant workers who are about 1 million and illegal in Thailand. According to the planned of Yin Luck’s government, those workers who will be able to apply for Thai ID card must be Karen, Moan and other ethnic groups in mountain provinces and those are completed the process of national verification in 2009. Last on December 7, Thai government already announced orders with the name lists for the people who are able to apply for permanent residency. In this process of application, for those workers who will apply Thai ID card from their villages and town blocks have to submit the application form to the office of town administrator. As soon as national board from each department made decision on their applications to give Thai citizenship for some Burmese migrant workers, will be legalize Thai ID card holder and will be eligible for citizenship in Thailand.
