18th Dec. 2011 International Migrant Day Celebration was held in the YCOWA’s community center in Maesot. The celebration was held by YCOWA in cooperation with other Burmese labor organizations and women organizations. Then, the leaders of various organizations gave speeches on the subject of International Migrant Day and gave information that the migrant workers should know. A Burmese migrant worker, who currently charges against his employer, also shared his experience in prosecution. Another worker, who recently won a legal case against his employer with the help of YCOWA, retold to other Burmese migrant workers how he fought for his right. Thus, the two workers informed their fellow migrant workers how to response their employers if they are unfair, and to work with organizations like YCOWA.
In the ceremony YCOWA arranged a puzzle regarding labor rights, human rights and rights of migrant people . About the rights of workers, their chances, organizations intended in helping workers and some information on International Migrant Day were included in the puzzle. The competitors who got 1st, 2nd, and 3rd places were awarded with 2 000, 1 000, 500 Baht accordingly. And YCOWA also told the workers this kinds of puzzle will be held in future ceremonies and encourage Burmese migrant workers to learn about their rights. Later the day, the teams, who got the top three places in a soccer match held by YCOWA and other organaztions as a celebration to International Migrant Day, and the people who won the puzzle were awarded.
